Odyssey Technical Solutions Opened in 2000 in Round Rock, TX. With Two Guys, 1500 sq. ft. and a Dream
ROUND ROCK, TX, Nov. 12, 2013- Odyssey Technical Solutions today announced that this week they have reached their 25,000th repair of RF, MW and DC equipment primarily used in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. In 2000 two friends from Motorola/ Austin decided they wanted to work for themselves and recognized a niche in the semiconductor equipment repair business; the business model placed them between the higher price OEM (original equipment manufacturer) repair and the generally lower quality third party repair competitors. Now 13 years later, in their 20,000+ sq. ft. technology center, with 50 employees and over 30 technicians, they realize their business model really did work and the industry has taken notice.
Jim Plourde, president of Odyssey said, “When Eric (Nail) and I started we put in many hours and expressed many doubts about even getting through our first year together. Now it’s 13 years later and we come in every day and marvel at what is happening.”
This veteran owned business has grown and grown, and 25,000 repairs is a significant milestone that should be celebrated. In 2009 when the world and semiconductor business were severely tested, Odyssey had only a small adjustment, compared to the large, well-documented layoffs by their competitors. Despite the lack of business they felt an obligation to keep their core of key people together, most of whom are still with Odyssey today. That strategy helped them emerge from the downturn with increased market share and higher volume.
“A truly American small business success story is what it is and we are so happy to be able to hire and touch the lives of our employees and their families. Many times it felt like we were David in David versus Goliath, but as we know David ultimately won”, said Eric Nail, vice president of Odyssey.
A recent customer survey (Oct 2013) revealed over 80% of Odyssey customers believe Odyssey offers “the highest quality repair and give us the highest confidence level”. One of their largest customers summarizes it best “turnaround time is outstanding and if we need a part expedited they’re able to turn around parts even faster. The quality of repair is also fantastic.” So Odyssey is not only touching the local Round Rock and Austin communities, but the semiconductor industry across the globe.
